Be mindful of the toll of identity-related tragedies on people you know

This has been another particularly trying week for me and many others who experienced the news of the shooting of Ralph Yarl on a personal and deep level. A young Black man shot for simply knocking on the wrong door. It hurts to even get into the details so I’ll leave it up to you to investigate further.

What I want to do is to take this opportunity to challenge us all to be mindful of the toll news like this takes on the people around us. We seem to be losing the empathy and sympathy that welled up back in 2020 following the murder of George Floyd. Sadly, similar tragedies continue and many of us still struggle with it as much today as we did three years ago, if not more. Tap into that same compassion and be mindful to give people the space they need to process this trauma. And yes, that includes the DEI Officers you rely on to craft messages acknowledging these tragedies for your workforce.
