Reflect on your identity and celebrate what makes you you

It’s Celebrate Diversity Month! With so many terms being misused and vilified in recent times, I especially appreciate the sentiment of celebrating diversity. This is a great opportunity for us to explore and honor the ways we all experience the world across different cultures and backgrounds.

It’s also a great opportunity for some self-reflection about our own identities and how we celebrate them. Take 5 minutes to write down all of the things that make you you. They could be personal characteristics, roles you play at home or at work, identifiers tied to where you grew up. Select a few and find ways to celebrate them this month. It could be by attending a gathering of people who are part of a community you identify with. Or writing and sharing a reflection on a meaningful family tradition. Take this time to get recentered and to feel the joy of community.

And equally important - extend that grace to others by respecting what they celebrate and being open to learning about what’s significant to them and what brings joy to their lives.
