Consider Taking Bystander Intervention Training
There’s no better way to be an active ally than to prepare yourself to intervene when you witness an unjust act. Whether it’s a verbal or physical altercation, an assault of words or a violent attack, there are various ways to show up for the target of hateful behavior. Just this week I participated in bystander intervention training being offered by Asian Americans Advancing Justice and Hollaback! in response to the recent escalation in violence against the AAPI community and I highly recommend it to any and everyone. Sign up for just one (free!) hour and you will walk away with a range of tactics you can use to take action. One tactic – document – was what made justice possible in the murder of George Floyd (salute, Darnella Frazier!) As Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said following the verdict announcement yesterday, “nobody can do everything but everybody can do something.”
